High-risk asthma refers to a category of asthma in which patients are at increased risk of severe exacerbations, complications, or poor outcomes. It doesn’t always mean that the asthma is classified as severe, but rather that certain clinical, behavioral, or environmental factors place the patient at greater risk of serious health events.
Severe asthma is a chronic form of asthma that is difficult to control despite high-intensity treatment. It involves frequent symptoms, flare-ups (exacerbations), and persistent inflammation of the airways, even when a person is using high-dose inhalers and other controller medications as prescribed.
